A Journey of Empathy and Action
Today, we visited the Makoko community, a place often described as a floating slum, to assess the living conditions and understand their needs ahead of a project we are planning there.
The experience was deeply emotional and humbling. Seeing how families, especially little children, live and survive in such conditions was heart-wrenching. The water they live on serves every purpose, from cooking, bathing, urinating and to even defecating. It’s hard to imagine, but this is their reality.
Despite the challenges, their resilience and strength are undeniable. To provide some immediate relief, we distributed food items, mosquito nets and sanitary pads. These were handed over to the community leader for fair distribution, ensuring safety and order, especially since movement on the water is risky.
This visit has further strengthened our resolve to make a difference in Makoko. We hope to address some of their most pressing needs and improve their quality of life, even in a small way.
